Flood defence barriers like those in the Thames River at Woolwich are needed to counter the effects of climate change

Responding to the Association of British Insurers Report, warning of a big increase in flooding risk across eastern England, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Northampton North, Andrew Simpson said:

"This report highlights the madness of cutting flood defence budgets when we know that climate change is severely increasing the threat of flooding.

"Flood defences are our first bulwark against some of the worst effects of climate change, many of which Northampton's people have already experienced to their cost, and it is essential they are maintained to the highest standards."
