The government must introduce measures to cut carbon emissions, such as investing in renewable energy sources

Commenting on the recently published initial report on the Review of the Sustainability of Existing Buildings, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson for Northampton North, Andrew Simpson said:

"Merely pointing out what needs to be done won't save the planet or reduce fuel bills in Britain's new and existing homes.

"The Government must set clear targets to cut carbon emissions by 60% by 2050, and require all new homes from 2015 to be so well insulated and draught-proofed they don't need central heating.

"The Government should stop posturing and start helping people to cut energy use at home.

"This would reduce families' bills, improve the comfort in their homes, and cut carbon emissions. It could start by using the winter fuel allowance to insulate peoples' homes rather than using it to pay for four million tonnes of carbon to be pumped into the atmosphere this winter."
