Lib Dems are calling for the FA to reform to reflect the interests on supporters and players

As the England football team begins a new era, the national game is still being hampered by its archaic structure, the Liberal Democrats claimed today.

A year after the Burns review findings were published, calling for radical changes to the Football Association, no action has been taken.

Andrew Simpson, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Northampton North said: "While the FA council includes representatives from Oxford and Cambridge Universities and the military, supporters, referees and even professional players have no voice.

Liberal Democrat Shadow Culture, Media, and Sport Secretary, Don Foster MP commented:

"Lord Burns' recommendations offer a clear chance to bounce back from recent turbulent times at the FA. If the England team under McClaren and Terry is to get the support it deserves, the FA must grasp this opportunity immediately."
